Understanding the Alipay interface
The international Alipay interface is organized around jobs rather than around one financial account. A user opens the app because they need to pay, travel, translate, book, check a transaction or solve a problem. The interface brings those jobs together, while the underlying service may be provided by Alipay, Ant Group, a bank, a transport authority, a travel platform or another mini-program operator.
This distinction is essential. The Alipay app supplies identity, payment authorization and navigation, but it does not necessarily operate every hotel, railway, eSIM or utility service displayed within it. AI shortcut

Scan
Scan opens the camera for merchant QR codes, mini-program codes and other supported Alipay interactions. For payment, confirm the recipient name, amount, currency and funding source. A QR code can lead to a merchant checkout, a personal collection account, a menu, a rental service or a website; the visual pattern alone does not establish legitimacy.
Visitors should avoid scanning codes placed over another sticker, received from an unverified contact or displayed outside the expected checkout. If a code opens an unfamiliar service, close it and ask the merchant for the official route.
Pay/Receive
Pay/Receive commonly presents the customer payment code and eligible receiving functions. A foreign card linked for merchant purchases does not automatically permit personal transfers or receiving an Alipay balance. Transport
Transport can provide local bus, metro and taxi functions. These tabs reorganize shortcuts by activity. They do not create new permissions; they make existing services easier to find. A visitor can customize shortcuts, but a pinned service may still require separate registration or identity verification.
DiDi Travel
DiDi connects users to ride-hailing. Confirm pickup point, destination, vehicle, estimated fare and cancellation policy. Translation

eSIM
The eSIM shortcut can connect travellers with mobile-data products. Before buying, check device compatibility, activation country, data allowance, validity, hotspot policy and whether installation requires internet access. Install before losing access to reliable Wi-Fi, but activate according to the provider’s instructions to avoid starting the validity period too early.
Exchange Rate
The exchange-rate tool is useful for estimates, not a guarantee of the final card charge. The card network, issuing bank, conversion date and foreign-transaction fee can affect the actual amount. Always review the final RMB amount and the issuer’s posted transaction.
Special Offers and city guides
Offers can reduce travel cost, but eligibility, minimum spend, merchant restrictions and expiry apply. A guide to Beijing or Shanghai is editorial or commercial discovery content, not an official statement that every listed service supports foreign identity documents or international cards.
Entry Utilities
The Entry Utilities group is aimed at common inbound-travel barriers: connectivity, language, currency awareness, immigration information, luggage and tax refunds. It is a directory, not a promise that every function is government-operated or universally available.
eSIM and Translation
These repeat high-demand home-screen shortcuts. Their presence in multiple places illustrates Alipay’s task-oriented design: visitors should not have to remember where a tool is stored.
Immigration 12367
The 12367 immigration-related entry can help users reach official immigration information or services. Immigration rules are high-stakes and can change. Confirm visas, permitted stay and document requirements through China’s National Immigration Administration or another official authority rather than relying solely on a translated summary.
LuggaGo and luggage services
Luggage services can be valuable during long transfers, hotel changes or journeys between stations. Confirm pickup window, storage location, insurance, prohibited items, delivery deadline and identity requirements. Keep passports, medicine, electronics, money and irreplaceable documents with you unless the provider explicitly and safely supports them.
Tax Refund
Tax refund tools can help eligible overseas visitors navigate VAT refund procedures. Eligibility depends on the visitor, store, goods, purchase amount, departure timing and customs validation. The icon does not mean every purchase qualifies.
China expanded instant tax refunds nationwide in 2025, allowing eligible visitors at participating stores to receive a prepayment after signing an agreement and pre-authorizing a card. Departure obligations still matter. Alipay+ also documents a wallet-based airport or port refund flow in which the traveller completes customs procedures, selects the wallet refund method, scans the service code, confirms the amount and receives the credit.
Keep the passport, invoices, refund forms and goods available for inspection. Do not open or consume an item if the applicable process requires it to remain available. Never participate in proxy buying or false refund claims.
Urban Transport
DiDi Travel
Within More Services, DiDi remains a major solution for point-to-point travel. Foreign visitors can use Alipay’s transport flow or the dedicated DiDi application where supported. Provide the destination in Chinese when possible, select the correct pickup pin and verify the number plate.
HelloRide
HelloRide can connect users with bike or mobility services. Availability varies by city and may require a deposit, identity verification or local eligibility. Inspect the vehicle before unlocking it, follow local parking rules and confirm that the trip has ended in the app. A ride left running can continue to accrue fees.
Metro and bus QR codes
Transit codes are usually city-specific. A Beijing code should not be assumed to work in Shanghai. The user may need to select the city, accept a service agreement and complete identity verification. At a metro gate, use the same credential for entry and exit. If a scan fails, do not tailgate; ask station staff to inspect the transaction.
For buses, local rules can require scanning on boarding, on departure or both. Keep enough funding available until the fare is finalized. Transport payment may be processed after the ride rather than at the first scan.
Travel services
The Travel group shows why Alipay is described as a super-app. It can route users toward air, rail, hotel, attraction and cross-border transport providers without forcing them to begin with a separate search engine.
TripAir-Train and AliTrip Flights
Flight and train aggregators can compare schedules and handle payment, but the operating carrier controls baggage, check-in and disruption rules. Confirm whether a ticket is issued, whether the passport name is exact and whether the itinerary includes a self-transfer.
TripHotels and GO Hotels
Hotel services can simplify booking, yet not every property is equally prepared for overseas guests. Confirm that the hotel can register foreign visitors, the room type, deposit, check-in deadline and cancellation policy.
Trip Tickets
Attraction tickets may require passport details and appointment times. A park or museum can impose entry windows, closures and real-name checks. Save the voucher offline, arrive with the original document used to book and verify whether the QR code is the actual entry credential or only an order confirmation.
Railroad 12306
China Railway’s 12306 is the authoritative railway platform. Foreign travellers can register with passport information, complete identity verification and purchase tickets. China’s official guidance states that tickets can be paid through Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay cards. Names, nationality and passport number must be accurate.
Third-party booking services may be convenient, but travellers should understand whether the provider holds an actual ticket or submits a request when sales open. For changes and refunds, the railway’s rules and ticket status control the outcome.
Tripadvisor
Reviews can help with discovery but may be old, sponsored or written for a different traveller profile. Verify opening hours, ticket rules and accepted payment through the current provider.
Cross-border transportation
This category may include routes connecting the mainland with Hong Kong, Macao or other destinations. Cross-border transport involves immigration and document requirements separate from the payment. A successful booking cannot cure an invalid visa or insufficient travel document.
Planning an itinerary inside Alipay
Alipay can reduce app switching, but store confirmations systematically. Keep a simple record containing provider, reservation number, traveller name, date, refund deadline and funding source. Screenshots are useful offline, while live order status remains the authoritative record.
Convenience & Life features
Mobile Top-up
Mobile top-up can add prepaid credit to a supported number. Confirm the country code, carrier and exact number; top-ups are often difficult to reverse. A data package and a cash balance are not necessarily the same product.
Energy Monster
Shared power-bank services are common in shopping centres and restaurants. Scanning can authorize rental and sometimes a deposit or automatic payment. Inspect the price, return-network coverage and maximum charge. Return the device to a confirmed compatible station and verify that the rental ended.
Dian.so and local services
Local-life mini-programs can vary by region and version. Treat unfamiliar brands as third-party providers. Review the operator, permissions, price and support channel before authorizing payment.
My Packages and Cainiao
Package tools can track deliveries tied to supported marketplaces or phone numbers. Tracking status is informative but does not establish ownership of a parcel. Foreign visitors may need a Chinese mobile number, hotel cooperation or identity details for delivery.
Movies
Cinema booking can provide seat selection and mobile tickets. Check language, subtitle format, venue, showtime and refund rules. Once a show is near or has begun, changes may be unavailable.
Utilities
Utility payment functions can cover electricity, water, gas or other local accounts, primarily for eligible residents. Account numbers must be exact. A visitor should not assume that paying a landlord’s utility account creates tenancy rights or substitutes for a receipt.
Fund Services
The label “Fund Services” groups functions involving money, but the icons do not all operate in the same way. Eligibility for a domestic user may be broader than for a visitor with a linked overseas card.
Transfer
Transfer can send money between eligible accounts or through supported routes. A foreign card linked for merchant purchases may not fund a personal transfer. Confirm the verified recipient, purpose and final status. For a commercial obligation, keep an invoice and use an appropriate business route.
Card Repayment
Card Repayment is designed for supported card liabilities and may require a Chinese banking relationship. It should not be confused with adding a foreign card as a purchase funding source.
Red Packet
Red packets are a social transfer format. They can be useful in eligible accounts but are not suitable documentation for a supplier invoice, salary or regulated business payment. Availability can depend on identity and balance capabilities.
TourCard
TourCard appears in the supplied interface, but availability and provider terms can change. Older guides often treat visitor prepaid products as the only route into Alipay; many travellers can now link supported international cards directly. Users should compare the current in-app TourCard agreement with direct card linking, including fees, validity, refund handling, top-up rules and supported merchants.

Ant Forest

Ant Farm and Baba Farm

Transaction history is the first place to investigate a disputed charge. Open the specific entry and record the status, merchant, amount, time, funding source and transaction identifier. “Pending,” “successful,” “refunded” and “closed” are different states.
Travel Wallet
Travel Wallet can group visitor-focused payment or travel products depending on account region and app version. Determine whether displayed value is stored money, a prepaid product, a coupon or a linked funding method. Review expiry and refund conditions.
Balance

Bank Cards

What these features mean for importers and businesses
The service-rich interface can create the impression that all Alipay payments are interchangeable. They are not. A restaurant purchase, personal transfer, travel booking and supplier settlement have different purposes and records.
When paying a Chinese supplier, verify the invoice, supplier identity, wallet holder, RMB amount and reason for the selected route.
